Meals are delivered frozen each week on Wednesday mornings. Each meal contains a serving of a protein (chicken, beef, pork or fish), a serving of starch and a vegetable. Our service provides up to five meals a week, a salad, fresh fruits, a variety of desserts, bread and butter, and choice of beverages (whole milk, skim milk, 2% milk, iced tea, lemonade or water).

Our meals are prepared by our partner, Pennswood Village, a Continuing Care Retirement Community in Newtown.

Our meal provider, Pennswood Village, follows the American Heart Association’s guidelines for meal preparation, limiting saturated fat, trans-fat, sodium, red meat, sweets and sugar-sweetened beverages. To reduce sodium in foods, salt is minimized and replaced by mild spices and other flavorings. Healthy oils, such as canola and olive oil, are used to prepare foods. Fruits and “No Concentrated Sweets” desserts are offered daily. The menus are planned to both meet nutritional standards set by the PA Department of Aging and provide a nutritionally balanced diet.

We can support some special dietary requirements to accommodate medical issues or allergies, on a case-by-case basis.

You are eligible for Meals on Wheels if you are an older adult who lives in our service area, and you are having difficulty preparing meals for yourself because of illness, limited mobility, or other conditions. This can include short-term support for clients during recovery from medical procedures.

Our clients receive up to five frozen meals on Wednesday mornings every week. Meals are delivered between 10:00 and 11:30 AM.

Our friendly Meals on Wheels volunteers deliver your meals each week on Wednesdays.

No, you can request service for as many days as needed but the minimum number of meals is 2 each week.

To cancel a meal delivery, please call us at (215) 968-4233 no later than 9 AM on Friday of the week before.  Once our food order is placed, we will have to charge you for the meals in that delivery.

It is important that we know when you are not planning to be home.  Since we care about your health and safety, if you do not cancel and our driver does not find you at home, we will try to contact you or your emergency contact by phone.  If we cannot reach you or your emergency contact, we will request a wellness check from the local police department.

Meals are not delivered on the following holidays: New Year’s Day, Memorial Day, July 4th, Labor Day, Thanksgiving and Christmas. We will contact you about alternative delivery dates for holidays.

Meals will not be delivered in inclement weather that would make travel hazardous for our drivers.  Participants should always have non-perishable food on hand for the scheduled holidays and in the case of unexpected service cancellations.  You will be notified if we need to cancel deliveries because of weather conditions. In this case, we will reschedule delivery for another day.

You can continue to receive meals as long as you are unable to prepare meals for yourself.  Once you are more independent and able to prepare meals, we encourage you to let us know so we can provide meals for someone who cannot prepare their own meals.

Meals come in a foil container and can be reheated in a 3250 oven. IMPORTANT: The foil container in which the meals come CANNOT be reheated in the microwave.  Meals can ONLY be reheated in the microwave IF they are transferred into a microwavable container. See attached video (on this page) for complete reheating instructions.

You will receive an invoice in the mail every two weeks.

  • You can pay your bill by check. Mail your check to Woodside Meals on Wheels, 1382 Newtown-Langhorne Road, Newtown, PA 18940. Checks should be made out to Woodside Meals on Wheels.
  • You can also add us as a payee to your bank’s automated bill payment system (if you use one).

Bucks County Area Agency on Aging (BCAAA) provides low or no cost meals to older adults who qualify. If you think you may qualify, contact the Bucks County Area Agency on Aging at (267) 880-5700 and ask for Information and Referral.

We receive a variety of chicken, beef, pork and fish meals each week. We will ask which of these you prefer. If there are specific foods you do not like, we can talk about those when you apply. Although we do our best to comply with client wishes, the number of specific preferences we can accommodate is limited by the varieties of prepared foods available on a given day and by the importance of still providing clients with meals that are balanced and nutritious.

Prompt, friendly service…the volunteers are always pleasant and friendly…makes meal prep easy.
