Learn MoreFrequently Asked Questions

  • Am I eligible to receive Meals on Wheels?

You are eligible for Meals on Wheels if you live in our service area, are homebound, and you are unable to prepare nutritious meals for yourself.

  • What areas do you serve?

The Woodside MOW program serves customers in parts of Langhorne, Penndel, Newtown, Yardley, Upper/Lower Makefield, Morrisville, Holland, Churchville, Richboro and Southampton. We will verify that your address is within our delivery area when you apply.

  • How do I sign up for the program?

If you or someone you know would benefit from Meals on Wheels, please contact us at (215) 968-4233 or visit the “Contact Us” page on this website. Our volunteers are available in the mornings every weekday. You will be asked to fill out an application over the phone. In addition to information about you, we will ask you to provide the name and phone number of a family member or friend to contact if there is an emergency or we do not find you at home.

  • What is included in your meals?

We offer two meal plans – a Dinner and a larger Dinner plus Snack. The Dinner includes a hot entrée with a serving of meat or other protein, a starch such as a potato or pasta, and a hot vegetable. You will also receive a salad, dessert, slice of bread and butter and a choice of whole milk, 2% milk, skim milk, iced tea, lemonade or water. The Dinner plus Snack includes all the items in the Dinner above plus a sandwich, piece of fresh fruit, and an additional salad, dessert and beverage.

  • Where are the meals prepared?

Our meals are prepared by our partner, Pennswood Village, a Continuing Care Retirement Community in Newtown.

  • Can you accommodate special dietary requirements?

Our meal provider, Pennswood Village, follows the American Heart Association’s guidelines for meal preparation, limiting saturated fat, trans fat, sodium, red meat, sweets and sugar-sweetened beverages. To reduce sodium in foods, salt is minimized and replaced by mild spices and other flavorings. Healthy oils, such as canola and olive oil, are used to prepare foods. Fruits and “No Concentrated Sweets” desserts are offered daily. The menus are planned to meet the nutritional requirements of the Meals on Wheels program to provide a nutritionally balanced diet. We offer special meals for diabetics, with reduced sodium, and low fat. Please call for specifics about these meals.

  • Can I select meals from a menu?

No, you will receive one of a few food choices made available to us each day. If there are specific foods you do not like, MOW will annotate a few preferences/dislikes on the food labels at your request (ex. “No mushrooms”, “No chocolate”, “No fish”). Although we do our best to comply with client wishes, the number of specific preferences we can accommodate is limited by available space on the computer-generated labels, by the varieties/alternatives of prepared foods available on a given day and by the importance of still providing client meals that contain enough calories and are balanced and nutritious.

  • How many days a week do you deliver?

The MOW program provides service Monday through Friday of each week. Meals are delivered between 10:45am and 1:00pm.

  • Who delivers the meals?

Our friendly Meals on Wheels volunteers deliver your meals each day.

  • Do I have to sign up for meals all five days?

No, you can request service for as many days as needed such as Monday, Wednesday and Friday only.

  • How do I cancel a meal if I will not be home?

To cancel a meal, please call us at (215) 968-4233 no later than 9 AM the day before. For a Monday cancellation, please call by 9 AM on Friday. Once our food order is placed, we will have to charge you for the meal. It is important that we know when you are not planning to be home. Since we care about your health and safety, if you do not cancel and our driver does not find you at home, we will try to contact you or your emergency contact by phone. If we cannot reach you or your emergency contact, we will request a wellness check from the local police department.

  • Do you deliver on holidays?

Meals are not delivered on the following holidays: New Year’s Day, Memorial Day, July 4th, Labor Day, Thanksgiving and Christmas.

  • Do you deliver if it snows?

Meals will also not be delivered in the case of inclement weather that would make travel hazardous for our drivers. Participants should always have non-perishable food on hand for the scheduled holidays and in the case of unexpected service cancellations. You will be notified if we need to cancel deliveries because of weather conditions.

  • How long can I participate in the program?

You can continue to receive meals as long as you are homebound and unable to prepare meals for yourself. Once you are more independent and able to prepare meals for yourself, we encourage you to let us know so we can provide meals to someone who is homebound.
